Thanks for email. Delay in replying is because I've been scouring North Chesh FHS journals for Ashworths and Dodds and I've also contacted a local history colleague whose name is Ashworth. He has not returned my call yet.
I have come across another reference to Jane A where she is appointed sole exor of Elizabeth Hannah Ashworth, spinster of Stockport. It might not be THE Jane Ashworth, of course. A nephew Tom Robinson and a neice Mary R are mentioned in the will which is dated March 1906.
I wll keep an eye out (English expression) for Ashworth and Dodd of Dukinfield. Something just might turn up.
Thanks again for trying

“John Altham had some children from his previous marriage to Ann Benson. One was named Ellen. When John married Ellen Holgate she also became Ellen Altham
The story goes that the will was never proved and went to chancellry. We assume that when John died his will cited Ellen Altham as his main heir. It is a family story that both Ellens contested the will and that the house in St Annes ended up in Challencery. The house must have been demolished as the small corner site opposite the church is now a garden maintained by the council.†[Story added by Helen Mercer]
